Statistics for teen drivers in Florida are are really not comforting. A number of parents will really do all within power to keep their teens from driving yet. Most parents succeed in keeping them back for only a short period.
But you must acknowlegde that peer pressure is really a strong factor at this age. So what can you do to both help them stay safer and bring down the usually high car insurance rates they get? Following are recommendations that will help you whether you’re in Florida or not…
Car Insurance For Teenagers
It’s normal for your teen to expect privileges that come with adulthood while avoiding the responsibilities that come with it. Few of them, though, would ever complain if you insist that they show they’ve grown old enough for the privilege by taking on some of, or all of, the responsibilities that come with it.
Make them pay their auto insurance premium themselves or at least contribute a sizeable chunk. You’ll discover that making them to take steps that will make them lower their rates will be easier after you do this.
Give your teen driver this set of rules and they will be the safer if they abide by it…
1) Ensure they never drive with only fellow teens as passengers.
2) Let there be an agreement between you and your teenager that they won’t drive in the night. For those whom this may not be an option, teach your teen what to do and how to drive at night.
Reports show that accidents happen more between the hours of 9.00pm and 2.00am.
3) If they drink then they must not drive. For their safety they should not touch the steering wheels even if all they took was just a sip.
4) Let it be ingrained in your teenager that they are not on a race track even when they are on the highway.
They should obey speed limits and traffic laws.
5) You must always be told where they intend to drive to. And, please, be firm if you think they’re better off with a cab or even if you think they should not go there.
